The house has a new TV now!
I recently bought a new smart TV, which was delivered just today. My eyesight is so bad that buying a big, big screen has becoming a health priority—not that I’m complaining :) I spent the morning at home waiting for it, then set it up in the early afternoon and played some Switch games including Pepper Grinder, a game a friend has recommended to me. I’m not much of a gamer, but I used to be.

It’s a nice platformer in which you use a drill to move around and defeat enemies. The gameplay reminds me a bit of Celeste, in a very good way. It’s frenetic without being punishing or unfair to the player, and the aesthetics are just… chef’s kiss A part of me would like to play games more often, but then I have so many hobbies that it’s hard to finish games, especially when they’re very long. Anything longer than six hours is a stretch, especially considering my short attention span, or rather, the fact that the novelty tends to wear off quite quickly. The last game that really engrossed me is Pokémon Pokopia, which I played for about 45 hours; even then, I don’t think I’m anywhere close to being done!
One more positive thing about having a nice TV is that it can become something shared. Anticipating the delivery, I organised a watch party with my flatmates; after dinner, we sat for the first two episodes of Witch Hat Atelier, which we enjoyed very much.

I’m not entirely unfamiliar with this, because I’ve read a few volumes of the manga it’s based on. It’s a story about magic—full of originality, diversity and wonder. The first two episodes of the anime were lovely and featured breathtaking animations. I was, however, a bit puzzled by the incredibly economical use of the score, which seems to be very sparse. I’ll watch the next episodes for sure.
Now that I have this new toy, it will be hard to do anything else; the temptation to catch up on movies I’ve been meaning to watch for years will be very strong indeed.
